The brief was clear: a growing family with young children needed a home that worked differently. Not just larger — more connected. More light. A kitchen that didn't separate whoever was cooking from wherever everyone else was. Spaces that allowed family life to happen without constant friction between rooms.

The build took six months and had its complications. Mature trees along the boundary required careful negotiation with the local authority — their preservation was non-negotiable and rightly so. An old drain discovered beneath the foundations added the kind of unplanned problem that tests a project and everyone on it. Both were resolved. Neither compromised the outcome.

What remains is a home filled with natural light, open in the places that matter, and calm in the way that only comes from a layout that has been properly thought through. The classic exterior and the contemporary interior don't compete — they simply coexist, each doing what it does best.

The laughter the family now fills it with is, in the end, the only measure that counts.
