There are approximately 4 million conservatories in the UK. The vast majority of them are uncomfortable for around ten months of the year
This is not a coincidence. The polycarbonate and glass box conservatory — built in its millions between the 1980s and 2000s — was never really designed for the British climate. It was designed to sell. Boiling in July, freezing in January, prone to condensation, damp, and mould, and somehow simultaneously the coldest and most expensive room in the house to heat. A space added to expand the home that most families quietly stop using within a year of moving in.
Two neighbouring properties in Kent. Two conservatories with the same story — one suffering from chronic damp and mould, effectively unusable. The other a heat trap in summer and an ice box in winter, with a roof that had become more problem than solution. Both households had been living around their conservatories for years rather than in them.
We removed both. In their place — properly designed, fully insulated extensions that feel like genuine parts of the home rather than things attached to the back of it. Warm in winter. Comfortable in summer. No mould. No drama. Spaces people actually use.
It is one of the most common conversations we have with homeowners in Kent. And the solution is almost always simpler and more affordable than people expect.
If your conservatory is more trouble than it is worth — which statistically, it probably is — get in touch!
